Equal Opportunity Bagging On NY Senators
One on the Queen of Carpetbaggers, one on Senate Enemy #1 (actually, it's a tie with DiFi) for those of us who are gun rights oriented, Chuckles Schumer, the senior asshole from the Cesspool Empire State.
New York Sen. Charles E. Schumer, a powerful member of the Democratic leadership, said Friday the Senate should not confirm another U.S. Supreme Court nominee under President Bush "except in extraordinary circumstances."
If President Bush had any balls, he would respond that he would not sign bills authored by Democrats "except in extraordinary circumstances."
“We should reverse the presumption of confirmation,” Schumer told the American Constitution Society convention in Washington. “The Supreme Court is dangerously out of balance. We cannot afford to see Justice Stevens replaced by another Roberts, or Justice Ginsburg by another Alito.”
If you ask me Chuckles, the Court's been dangerously out of balance for somewhere around 70 years or so, ever since FDR started putting his fellow socialists New Dealers on the Court and the Court stopped slapping down the ill-conceived, unconstitutional, socialist policies of the New Socialist Deal. What we really can't afford is more Justices like Stevens and Ginsburg (though Douglas Ginsburg might be OK.)
Schumer’s assertion comes as Democrats and liberal advocacy groups are increasingly complaining that the Supreme Court with Bush’s nominees – Chief Justice John Roberts and Associate Justice Samuel A. Alito – has moved quicker than expected to overturn legal precedents.
Bringing Supreme Court jurisprudence a tiny bit closer to being back in line with the legal precedents established by the Founding Fathers when the wrote the Constitution. Just because the Warren Court decided something doesn't make it right, Chuckie.
Senators were too quick to accept the nominees’ word that they would respect legal precedents, and “too easily impressed with the charm of Roberts and the erudition of Alito,” Schumer said.
In Chuck's world, the Constitution only counts as a legal precedent when used to allow flag burning, abortion on demand at taxpayer expense, and the right of states (not their citizens) to have guns.
“There is no doubt that we were hoodwinked,” said Schumer, who sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee and heads the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.
If Democrats are this easy to hoodwink, it's no wonder Saddam Hussein, Osama bin Laden, et al, got away with so much during the Clinton administration.
A White House spokeswoman, Dana Perino, said Schumer's comments show "a tremendous disrespect for the Constitution" by suggesting that the Senate not confirm nominees.
Newsflash Dana-it's a rare day when Chuckles shows any respect for the Constitution at all.
"This is the kind of blind obstruction that people have come to expect from Sen. Schumer," Perino said. "He has an alarming habit of attacking people whose character and position make them unwilling or unable to respond. That is the sign of a bully. If the past is any indication, I would bet that we would see a Democratic senatorial fundraising appeal in the next few days."
Um...it's not just the senior senator from New Yuck that does that. It's pretty much his whole party.
Schumer voted against confirming Roberts and Alito. In Friday’s speech, he said his “greatest regret” in the last Congress was not doing more to scuttle Alito.
“Alito shouldn’t have been confirmed,” Schumer said. “I should have done a better job. My colleagues said we didn’t have the votes, but I think we should have twisted more arms and done more.”
I think this is, at last, an open admission by a leading DemCong member that to them, lack of conformity to their political worldview is a disqualifier for Supreme Court nominees.
Senators of the Stupid Party would do well to remember this, should the DemCong win the Whitehouse in 2008.
Rachel Lucas has a post up, asking readers to submit, in the comments, just why they hate the power behind Slicky Willy's throne. The comments are excellent, but my favorite is this one (found via Because I Say So)
Why I hate Hillary Clinton, in quotes:
“Fairness doesn’t just happen. It requires the right government policies.”
"F**k off! It’s enough that I have to see you shit-kickers every day, I’m not going to talk to you too!! Just do your G*damn job and keep your mouth shut." (From the book "American Evita" by Christopher Anderson, p. 90 - Hillary to her State Trooper bodyguards after one of them greeted her with "Good morning.")
"You f**king idiot." (From the book "Crossfire" p. 84 - Hillary to a State Trooper who was driving her to an event.)
"If you want to remain on this detail, get your f**king ass over here and grab those bags!" (From the book "The First Partner" p. 259 - Hillary to a Secret Service Agent who was reluctant to carry her luggage because he wanted to keep his hands free in case of an incident.)
"We just can’t trust the American people to make those types of choices…. Government has to make those choices for people" (From the book "I’ve Always Been A Yankee Fan" by Thomas D. Kuiper, p 20 - Hillary to Rep. Dennis Hastert in 1993 discussing her expensive, disastrous taxpayer-funded health care plan)
"I am a fan of the social policies that you find in Europe" (Hillary in 1996 From the book "I’ve Always Been A Yankee Fan" by Thomas D. Kuiper, p. 76 - Hillary in 1996)
And the grand-daddy of them all:
"Many of you are well enough off that [President Bush’s] tax cuts may have helped you. We’re saying that for America to get back on track, we’re probably going to cut that short and not give it to you. We’re going to have to take things away from you on behalf of the common good." (Hillary grandstanding at a fund raising speech in San Francisco; SFGate.com 6/28/2004.)
You are an Anti-government Gunslinger, also known as a libertarian conservative. You believe in smaller government, states’ rights, gun rights, and that, as Reagan once said, “The nine most terrifying words in the English language are, ‘I’m from the government and I’m here to help.’”
