Does War Breed Warriors?
And no, this has nothing to do with any of that "violence just causes more violence" bovine excrement.
Was grocery shopping at the commissary with my wife (now overdue at D+1) and the lady at the checkout asked the de rigeur "Is it a boy or girl?" question. When my wife told her it was a boy, she said that for the last four or five months, every pregnant woman she's seen on post (all of them military spouses, with some pregnent soldiers thrown in for good measure) were having boys. And she's not the first commissary/PX worker I've heard that from. And they see a lot of pregnant spouses/soldiers-Ft Lewis and McChord AFB, which share a hospital, are having a baby boom right now.
Now, I don't doubt that the war and attendant deployments are behind the higher birth rate. But this anecdotal evidence about an abnormally high percentage of expected boys made me wonder: is it somehow possible that the warriors are breeding (sorry, I can't come up with a better word) the next generation of themselves, preparing to continue the fight beyond their time?
